Winter Itch
Winter Itch is extremely common in colder climates and is often found on the lower legs, arms, flanks and thighs. Common symptoms associated with Winter Itch are cracks in the skin, itching, dry scale-like skin or when the skin becomes irritated and inflamed. Some refer to this as alligator skin or ashy skin. This is a skin irritation caused by lack of moisture in the skin. If left untreated the skin can become excessively dry, chapped and crack.
Causes:
Cold dry climates, skin conditions, medications, dialysis, radiation treatments, excessive hand washing, harsh detergents.
Treatment:
Clean skin with a non-soap cleanser, blot skin (don't rub) apply and massage into the skin a layer of Blue Star Ointment to areas prone to dry skin.
For softer, rejuvenated skin in colder and dryer climates, try sleeping in a room with a humidifier and applying Blue Star Ointment to hands, cuticles, feet and other areas of dry skin before bed.
