Insect Bites & Stings
Stings and bites from insects are very common. They often result in redness and swelling in the bite area. A sting or bite injects venom composed of proteins and other substances that may trigger an allergic reaction. The sting can also cause itching, redness and swelling at the site of the sting.
In contrast, bites from mosquitoes typically do not cause significant illnesses, unless they convey "vectors," or microorganisms that actually live within these mosquitoes. Other insects such as chiggers and mites typically cause limited localized itchiness and swelling.
Causes:
Anytime outdoors for a prolonged time by/in tall grasses, stagnant water, hot swamps, marshes, sandboxes (unless properly protected with clothing and repellents).
Treatment:
Clean area with peroxide or water, allow to dry then apply a small amount of Blue Star Ointment with a cotton, swab to bite/sting. You can reapply as needed to relieve the itching.
Note: Never use Blue Star Ointment on a spider bite. Consult physician.
