Athlete's Foot
Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection of the skin caused by mold-like fungi known as dermatophytes. These fungi thrive in warm, moist areas. Athlete's foot can cause peeling, redness, itching, burning, sometimes blisters and sores. It is mildly contagious, and passed by direct contact or by walking barefoot in areas such as locker rooms, near pools, saunas, gym mats. Athlete's foot fungi can grow in shoes, sandals, and towels without air circulation.
Causes:
Heat, humidity, tight clothing, damp skin folds or excessive sweating.
Treatment:
Wash your feet thoroughly, especially between the toes. Blot dry and apply a layer Blue Star® Ointment to affected areas, twice daily. Athlete’s foot is usually treated with topical antifungal lotion. Oral medications may be prescribed for more severe cases.
